I feel fat and old somedays... and would like to meet up with y'all and ride.  I see you all the time around the Hogan's Branch and Happy Hollow area, and I just found out who you are from the guys at Bikers Choice.  I have gone thru the web site but one thing I don't see.  What time do you meet on Saturdays?  The Saturdays I'm in town I'd love to ride.
I am a newbie,,,,, long story as to why I am now on a bike, but anyway I could learn a lot and would love an opportunity to meet with some seasoned guys & gals, but I am up to about 10-15 miles a day, and am working my way up so I can take some long rides like Jack & Back..
I am having a little tough of a time understanding the blogs, because you all talk back and forth to each other like you know what each other is talking about but to a newbie, I am kinda lost, so if you could give me any help as to when you meet on Sat. or any other days I would appreciate it...
If it is clear on the website and I just havn't seen it, I am sorry, it's not the first time I overlooked something and probably won't be the last...

Thank You,
KINDA OLD & FAT
NEW BEES
Kinda Old & Fat,
The FOGBEES were founded by a bunch of kinda old and fat guys who enjoyed recreational cycling.  We started riding with some of the cycling clubs in the area, but got dumped, so we needed our own club of people who enjoy riding just for the exercise, the fun, and the socializing and not to "burn up" the roads.
The Club has grown into many groups with varying skill levels.  You can read more by clicking here.  Members of other Clubs say "we see FOGBEES all over over the place during a ride." That is true.  Our group-ride goal is to make sure every cyclist has a buddy, so no one rides alone, and to allow each cyclist to ride at one's personal comfort level.
The Regular and Lite rides are on Saturday morning.  Times depend on the weather and season.  We ride all year around.  We also have Regular rides on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  Specific times are posted on the Blog, which you have discovered is our Bulletin Board.  We also encourage members to post whenever they like riding and want company.  But you'll need to be careful with pick-up rides since we have both Killer Bees and Bumble Bees.
We enjoy and encourage new cyclists to join us.  Please continue reading this page and I'll try to help you make good use of this Web Site
JOINING US ON A CLUB RIDE
Everyone is welcome to ride with the FOGBEES.  We do ask that you:

      1) Introduce yourself to the Ride Leader and describe your skill level and knowledge of the area.  If you
don't plan riding the entire course please tell us, because we try to keep track of all riders to assure
no one is dropped.  We frequently provide on the blog maps and cue sheets for rides.
      2) Bring the right equipment. Please click here.  You must have a helmet.
      3) Obey all traffic laws.  Please click here.

Also, after the ride join us for socializing and getting acquainted often with re-hydration and food.

RIDE FAQ's

When do we ride? Mostly on Saturday mornings, starting between 8A and noon, depending on the weather, but you may find a ride almost any day.  Watch the FOGBEE Blog for schedules & impromptu pickup.

What kind of rides? The regular ride is usually around 45 miles averaging about 15mph.  However, we generally have a sub-group for about everyone's skill level.  Although everyone starts together, the ride usually sub-divides into groups of comparable skill so everyone has a change to enjoy the ride at their confort level.
In the warmer months we have a separate Lite ride which usually is between 25 to 30 miles with frequent rest stops and averages about 13mph (ride time).  It also starts together, but may sub-divide into groups of comparable skill during peddle time.  However, they regroup frequently during the route.

Where are the rides?  Mostly in Sumner County, but the FOGBEES are a traveling tour club and participate in most of the regional Charity Rides, have over-nighters, and have out-of-state mini-vacation rides.  Click here to view some of our past events.

Who leads the rides? Mostly Doug, Bob, Bryan, and David, but we ask all veteran FOGBEES to take a turn planning and leading one or more rides. Bruce is our long-ride leader for our over-nighters.  He has been riding for over 25 years and has left tracks on about every road in the southeast.  Last year Phil and Lisa, new Lite Riders, led all Club members on a great Bell Witch Tour.

How does one join a FOGBEE ride? Show-up, introduce yourself, and describe your skill level.  We'll introduce you to cyclists that are a best match for how you want to ride.

FOGBEE FAQ's

How does one become a FOGBEE? Ride with us regularly and spend some time at the after-ride social.

What are the dues? Nothing, nada - the best deal in Middle Tennessee. Keeping track of dues is a pain in the butt.  If we need some money, we'll ask for what is necessary only for the event.

What are the rules & regulations? Nothing is official, but click here if you want some.  We do ask that every cyclist know the laws, ride safely, and help new riders.

How do I get a FOGBEE jersey or ballcap? We don't stock jerseys.  We order them from Louis Garneau when the demand exceeds the minimum order quantity.  Depending on the volume a jersey costs about $50.

When are Club meetings?  FOGBEES meet after rides at our Club House .  Otherwise, most club business is conducted on our Blog.

Where can I get a list of the FOGBEES?  A complete list of the members, addresses, telephone numbers, and e-mail can be found at membership. Your name must be on that list to receive the password to open the list.

BLOG FAQ's

Why the blog? It's really a club bulletin board where all members have one central place to share information. We tried using e-mail, mail lists, Google/Yahoo groups, etc. but we experienced delays or blocks (by Comcast, AOL, Juno, NetZero, etc).  The blog is the only reliable communication.

Who can see the blog? Anyone in the world.  That way we can encourage new cyclists to join us.

Who can post or comment on the blog?  Only FOGBEES.  If you wish to send to our blog, let us know at Fogbees@gmail.com and we'll enroll you as a FOGBEE.

What can I post to the blog?  Almost anything you want, but we ask that it be stuff interesting to other FOGBEES.  Posts and comments are not moderated, but several of the FOGBEES act as administrators.

Why do some posts disappear from the blog?  Posts that are "dated" such as ride notices are removed routinely to keep from clogging up the blog with no-longer-valid information.

Why are some blog posts edited?  We don't edit your posts, but we may move them to our Web Site.  To make it easy for everyone to get a quick snapshot of FOGBEE News, the Web Master copies the Post to the Web site, leaves a short snippet on the blog, and provides a hyperlink to the full post on the Web Site.

WEB SITE FAQ's

With the blog why the Web Site? We can put only so much and limited kinds of information on the blog.  We can put any information of value to cycling on the Web Site.

What kind of stuff is on the Web Site?  Ride Schedules, area events, tour plans, calender, ride maps, cue sheets, pictures, photoshows, hazards, laws, swap shop, past events and tours, cycling advocacy, how-to-do-it, party info, links to area cycling clubs, links to personal blogs/MySpace/Facebook of members, etc.  To get a complete snapshot of what's here click on the SiteMap.  The dropdown menus provide limited navigation.  You might also try the Google Search tool

How do I submit ideas for the Web Site?  Ideas and HELP are appreciated and encouraged.  Send them to fogbees@gmail.com

What are you trying to accomplish with this Web Site?  Our goal is to have the most complete Club Web site in Tennessee.  In addition to what you find here please visit Hendersonville Greenway Committee Web Site.

Hello,
I want to express my appreciation for the wonderful time I had biking with you on Saturday.  I have not been on a bike in two years, so I was definitely nervous about a 26 mile group ride.  I am very grateful for the sweepers who kept checking on me from start to finish.  I also appreciate everyone's patience as I brought up the rear.  I would be remiss if I didn't thank R. . . . for encouraging me to join you.  She would not let me get away with any of my lame excuses--now, that's a friend!   I hope you all have a wonderful time in French Lick.  Hope to see you soon--
