IDEAS FOR FUTURE TOURS
1. Anniston to Atlanta via the Chief Ladiga/Silver Comet rail trail. Anniston has a very nice place to stay the first night, the Victoria Inn, The trail is 104 miles long and ends 13 miles north west of Downtown Atlanta.

2. Louisville, KY. They have a 26 mile trail along the Ohio River, a bunch of marked bike lanes and some good local rural roads.

Bike Maintenance
Road Bike Tires 101

The most important component on a bike is the tires.  For road bikes 1) Buy the right tire, and 2) Learn to fix it when it goes flat.

Routinely, new bikes out of the store have soft rubber tires, such as Specialized Pro.  They are light-weight, in-expensive, and give a comfortable ride, but they are magnets for glass and debris that easily cuts that soft rubber.  For safety sake, if you plan to do much road cycling, get rid of these tires.  You'll be lucky to get over 500 miles before trouble.

Buy a hard rubber tire, such as Gator Skin or Armadilo.

If you get a flat, the prescribed repair is described best by the expert Ken Kifer's How to Fix A Flat Tire on a Bicycle.
